Enliven, Positive Ageing Services is the division of Presbyterian Support (USI) that offers social services for older people. Enliven provides older people with individually-tailored support to remain in their own homes for longer and to achieve other goals that are important to them.

Services include social work, counselling, home support services, day activity programmes (some for people with memory loss), and falls prevention.

They are available to everyone in the community whatever their background, their religion, their ethnicity or their beliefs. You don't have to be a Presbyterian to be supported by, work for or support Presbyterian Support.

Government subsidies are available for much of this work, when they are not available, fees are charged in full or in part.

Counselling:
The main purpose of counselling is to help you sort things out for yourself and come to your own understandings and decisions so you can face the future with new hope and confidence. Talking things over with someone can be useful.

Presbyterian Support also offers a specialised counselling service for people affected by dementia, and for their families and carers.

Social Work:
Christchurch: For people 65yrs and over services include assessment and information, coordination of support services, counselling, advocacy, liaison with other agencies or health professionals, support for carers, elder abuse intervention. Home visits can be made.

Falls Prevention:
(Christchurch, Akaroa, Mid Canterbury, North Canterbury):
Group classes are offered based on Tai Chi exercise to improve strength and balance and aid in the prevention of falls. Home-based exercise programmes are available for older, frailer clients.

Harakeke Club:
Harakeke Clubs in Riccarton and Linwood are day programmes for older people with memory loss. They provide social opportunities, motivation and appropriate activities. Allowing carers day respite to pursue their own interests, or activities or just have a rest.

Activities include singing, cards, cooking, exercises, games, gardening, indoor games, minibus, music, newspaper reading, pool table, and reading.

Totara Club:
Totara Clubs in Riccarton and Rangiora are day programmes for older people open Mon - Fri (Riccarton) and Mon - Sat (Rangiora). Totara Clubs provide a place to meet together, share a meal, outings, entertainment and a range of activities, where old acquaintances are renewed and new friendships made. They have experienced, caring staff who are assisted by enthusiastic volunteers. Transport is arranged.

The HomeShare service is a day activity programme where older people are invited into a private home for 1 or 2 days a week to share in activities, meals and companionship. Individuals or couples are recruited & trained by Enliven as Homeshare hosts.

This service has been developed and delivered by Enliven over the last 6 years in response to community need and currently operate in rural North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury and on the West Coast and will be in Canterbury soon. Transport is arranged
